First off, I would like to thank everybody that answered my questions and many other people that helped me along the way that didn’t even know it. This forum and the wiki have been a wealth of information for me.
This character is my first Matriarch, the first character I have ever taken beyond normal. She has done a little bit of everything; from being a quester, to magic finder and everything in between. I have tried many gear combinations along the way, replacing gear with better gear as I found it. I kept the rogue merc all the way until Hell, where the immunes just became too much to deal with. I tried a Barb for a while, he was just so eager, and kept drinking too much of my magic purple juice. Then I finally came to my senses and got a Nightmare Holy Freeze merc, which almost makes it too easy.
I used Frost Nova for a while, until I could get Glacial Spike. I maxed it out with my first respec and used it all the way until Nightmare Act V. I switched to a Fire Ball/Frozen Orb set up with my second respec. I still have my third respec. These numbers are after I beat Baal, at Level 90, completely untwinked. The numbers in parenthesis are with the magic find setup on.

This girl is tough. Aside from CI/FI, which Hazade deals with very well, she can throw down. I like to be able to kill everything, and thats probably why I prefer to area run, but there are bosses in my MF rotation. I like to run the AT, Crypt, Masoleum, Pits, WSK, Meph, Pindle/Shenk/Eldritch/Sharptooth, Countess, and Andy. I managed to piece together Tal's and that really helped out with MF and survival. I usually kept the Ravenfrost on all the time as the CBF helped me out alot. I know, I know, cast rate is not affected while frozen and Teleport is there to get away, so a sorc should not be worried about it. I dont like to be slowed down in the fray. I managed to hit the 63 FCR breakpoint while questing, but when I traded the Magefists for the Chance Guards to MF, I dropped below that frame rate. I hit the 42 FHR breakpoint by the 25% FHR Tal's set comes with, 12% on a charm and 5% on another charm. I want the resists maxed out, thats why I put the Emerald in the Moser's to be at full resistance to poison while questing. I wanted to make a Sanctuary runeword, but I have never found a Mal rune.
I plan to keep her going to magic find and keep leveling her. I dont know if I have the patience to get to 99. At 90, I still see the exp bar go up a little here and there, but I am sure it comes to a crawl later on. I still have the third respec, but I want to stay with the Cold/Fire set up with this character. I hardly use the Cold Armors, so I could take those points with a few out of the Cold Mastery and make the Fireball stronger. I still have two socket quests left, which I wanted to use for cold facets, but I have never found a single unique jewel. I have another sorc I started, but this one is so fun to play, I haven't put much time into her. She will be heavily twinked thats for sure.
I will stop now as I could go on forever. For some reason, this game just jumped out and really got me this time around. I have seriously neglected a few things around the house because of playing. I have read up a little on D3 and have been excited for years about it coming out. I will buy it when it comes out I am sure, but I will always love this game. |||Very nice! Congrats on your first Mat!
Very nice gear for untwinked as well! You really found some nice stuff as well.
Way to keep it up past normal!|||Congrats on the Mat!
I suggest to make a Spirit shield if you manage to find a Monarch. If it rolls 35%FCR, you can hit the 105 FCR breakpoint (with full Tal's + Magefists). Also, it came with 55%FHR, and 35% cold, lightning and poison resist.
If you decide to respec, you can always use the cold armors on weapon switch.
Have fun with MFing and good luck to your next sorc! |||Quote:

I'd agree with janooo- Spirit can't be beat in SC. Monarchs aren't too hard to find if you run the pits with little MF. Larzuk will always add 4 sockets to them I think, and the cube recipe is likely to. Hel is easy to get now from Countess, so there is no reason, IMHO, for a sorc like yours to not have a perfect (in terms of FCR) Spirit.
glhf|||I would like to make a spirit shield, but I dont have RWM. I did find a Stormshield that I was thinking about using, but I do think the Spirit would be nice because of the FCR. I thought about an Insight for the merc, but the Reaper's has the life leech and CTC Decrepify. Insight would be good until the level to use Reaper's though.
I will definitely use a weapon on switch for one of the cold armors and use the points elsewhere. I really didnt even use them anyway.
I was on the fence about blocking percentage. Is it worth it to invest in Dex to get some blocking, or is it only worth it if you are going all the way to Max block? I upped the Moser's and added the Eld rune to get a little more blocking. I guess it is a choice to have enough strength for a Monarch shield or enough Dex for full blocking, and then have decent life and mana.|||how the heck did you manage to find the complete TAL set playing untwinked??
I'm already glad if I just find the helm so i can put it on my merc...
oh, if you're going for spirit, don't bother getting max block. Just go all out in vit.|||It took along time to put it all together, the armor being the last piece I found in the AT. I got the belt and amulet on the same run on NM Meph, the weapon from NM Meph, and I have found several helms. The helm is a great item to put on a merc, resistance, life, and most important, life leech. NM Meph is the only boss that has ever dropped any decent gear for me. I ran Pindle last night around 100 times and never saw a single unique item and only limited rares that were useless. I usually play Hell on P5, but I went up to P8 for awhile and still no luck. I have seen shako in white, grey, blue, and yellow so many times, but not in gold. I know Harlequin wants to drop, the game is toying with me. I am just checking, but can Pindle drop Arachnids? He is a TC 87, but I think I read somewhere once that only Baal can drop it.|||Grats on the Mat!
Fireball / Orb is one of my favorite combinations. You've also done it the "correct" way and didn't waste any points into Meteor, which is like my least favorite skill in the game. I love fireballs though.
I had to check what an Eld in a shield does, didn't remember that . I'm pretty sure 25% LL on the moron is like way too much if anything, certainly don't need more.
Nicely done!
--Greebo|||Grats on the Mat!
Running Pindle 100 is not likely to net you anything. Pindle is a target that you need to seriously run thousands of times to be given a chance at him dropping significant items (Windforce, Griffon's etc.) But he is (one of) the fastest and easiest targets to load up on MF gear and run for most TC87's.
Pindle can not drop: Arachnid's, Tyrael's Might, Azurewrath, and Cow King's set.
Hell Mephisto, as well as other areas of Hell, can drop Arach's.
If you really want an Arach's, I would go for Hell Meph, as he can also drop lots of twinking goodies and Shakos. But I would not run H Meph for too long once you get some good twinking items.
Good luck with MF'ing, and 'grats again!
