[:1]hello all, i was eager to try a character out, but couldnt think of an appropriate name, so i went with one from the animated DC Wonder Woman movie, Artemis. even though i looked her up and she's more known for bow skill than javelins, i stuck with the name. after i'd started her at least one other Artemis has been posted here and i groaned a little at the overlap. great minds think alike i guess you could say
Artemis

i have a couple characters that can run up to baal but then have a fairly tough time killing him as quick as i'd like on their own. originally i wanted to make a zon to CS bosses to death super fast. i have made enough lightning zons that i wanted to try some new ideas this time around, however. the things i wanted to do was to make her melee (no fury) and to have a strong physical melee attack with which i could leech. since i wanted those two things, i decided that i'd go pure Jav (no bow) and that i'd go with no dodges (or valk) so that i could safely try out fend (never used it before). i also decided i wanted to make her tough enough to take a few hits without any troubles (max block). since i wasnt going to be dumping points into valk and only needed a decent amount of damage from CS which i've found only really takes CS and a synergy, i was going to have a few spare points. naturally poison was something i looked at since it only takes 40 points. i've used it before pvm with the cold bow skills and felt it was a bit lacking. previously on my light javazons i have skipped poison because i figured it would take a back burner to the might of Fury. you're killing things so super fast with light, why bother with poison? since this time i was going with a slower paced build that might not have too many +skills, i figured that light wouldnt overshadow the poison side too much. this led me to decide on another new thing to me, using lightning strike.
lightning strike was the skill that brought the whole build together. it's a relatively slow lightning skill that allows you to let poison do its part, but it also hits all or nearly all of the monsters in the area. so, when you get done killing the monster you're actually meleeing with, the rest of the pack is over half dead. anyway, here's her current skillset:
20 Charged Strike (LCS: 2023 x 9 bolts)
20 Lightning Strike (LCS: 1678 x 31 hits)
20 plague jav (LCS: 22k over 14.6 seconds)
20 Poison jav (synergy, never used after i got plague)
1 jab (750 @ 3428 AR. never really needed more)
1 impale (never used)
1 fend (1069 @ 3909 AR. again, one point was sufficient)
1 into all passives down to decoy
1 into all passives down to pierce
dumping rest into lightning bolt, though i probably should have picked fend, Crit, or Penetrate to get more physical.
because i wanted to not only melee, but melee at a decent speed while maintaining blocking and survivability, that dictated my gear selections. i tried like mad to get rid of treachery at the end of NM, but the ias was just too great to give up. i wanted to be able to stand in a pack letting poison kill them while i was safely leaching enough life to stay alive. half way through act 4 (hell), i really really wanted to try out tstrokes, i dont however have a pair yet, so i parked this zon in act 5 for a few months in the hopes of finding a pair. i havent yet gotten to try them out. when i find a pair, i definitly will try them though. once i get rid of titans for tstrokes, i'd be able to switch to a different armor, one with +skills. this really is a build that would do well with a nice pair of rare javs +4skills/30ias/fools mod/replenish/eth :drools: titans are good, but the lack of ias really hit me hard with what i was trying to accomplish. she doesnt have enough life leech either. i originally wanted to put dracs on her for the fun of it and to make her immortal, but i needed ias pretty much everywhere to jab/CS/lightning strike fast enough to suit me. one thing i really dug was that for the first zon ever i didnt have to use razortail! i love that belt, but not using it for once was great.

this merc was great! i've never used delerium on a merc before, but since i went with reaper's toll, i didnt need him to have life leech on his hat. nightfish is always going on about delerium so that was that. i loved the confuse, mindblast, and flee and usually one of the three would go off or if not, then decrep would. he really covered my lack of a valkerie and with proper placement of a decoy, i was never really in trouble unless i ran in without thought.

with all that wall of text, i havent told you about playing her. she was a breeze. she was also very fun and i highly recommend this build, but only to experienced zon players (unless you're SC, then go for it). it wasnt always easy to tell when to blaze away and when to back off. i went players 8 all the way through to about act 3 hell. i really started to notice her kill time slowing around then so went down to players 5, then down to players 3 at the start of act 4. by the time i made it to Harrogath, she was down to players 1. still, she had zero trouble killing things. there were a few NDE, but nothing really out of the ordinary. dolls really suck for this character. she doesnt have the life buffer that i'd like for a melee character. i wound up hot keying lightning bolt for the odd times i had to stay back.
she had absolutely zero notable drops. seriously, i went back through my screenshots and the first one i have of her in action is vs hell ancients... nothing notable from forges obviously....
future plans include restating and retooling her to pure lightning for boss killing and that's pretty much it. i'm sure i'll do some cows as well. thanks for reading my wall.|||Congratulations, and that's some really nice rare items!
Speaking of fend, I read somewhere that one can neutralize the bug by standing still and target the ground under monsters instead of the monster directly. That would presumably cause the game to calculate in some other way than a normal fend. I've never tried it though, and it sounds pretty hard. Do you know anything about this?
Shouldn't Artemis be an archer? She is after all a shooting Greek goddess of hunting before all else...|||crikey thats looks fun!|||Nice guardian, it is good to see a different take on the javazon|||Yeah, good build there.. I was thinking that I hadn't seen any javelin-wielding fendazons, then I realized I was reading a guardian thread. I'm impressed you were able to take her through on /p8 for so long.
And that diadem is godly.
Grats.|||Such a lovely Amazon you have there. Congratulations for that nice Achievement! |||I love builds that are unusual but still effective
This seems very cool. I love the rare outfit. Grats!|||Nice Guardian! I'm going to try the skill setup you did soon, glad to see it is a successful build!|||Excellent character/write-up; congratulations on the Guardian. I like the circlet/belt you used. Those items with high +str really help to beef your vitality.
I always thought Lightning Strike was a cool skill, always overlooked or under-appreciated. Did you have many scenarios where you used the Stoneraven? I imagine mainly for when physical damage was necessary.|||I'm impressed by the use of some nice rares.
Congrats on the Guardian.
