Few questions regarding my plans

I've started playing SP in Vanilla/FAM way (used to play with ***NON ACCEPTED MOD*** but after some thinking being able to trade is so great thing that I wanted to start from scratch) and installed D2 Expansion from original install discs in order to begin with 1.07. I leveled up a frozen orb + static field sorceress as that sounded cheesy enough for a first untwinked character in this unknown (to me) patch.

Until lvl 30 it was pretty tough but after that things got a lot easier and I'm already doing racking and some hell cows runs for xp. This is of course just a builder character and ultimately I'm planning on creating a goddess strafer for 1.13.

I have used another pc to rush that amazon through all the content and she is currenly standing in healthy level of 54. Skillwise she is a Lightning Fury javazon. The plan is to bring that amazon to 1.09 where I will do lot's of cowruns in order to level her above level 90. Possibly all the way to 99 if it does not seem to be too demanding task.

Since I am starting from the past and don't mind "abusing" cheesy stuff I am going to take the full advantage of patches from the past. This means that I will also stop by at 1.10s for at least one beta Call to Arms. This is my current plan but here is few questions I'd like to get an answer until I proceed further as moving characters to later patches is a one way process.

1. 1.09b or 1.09d for levelling up? B version should have player setting up to 64 players so it should be better for levelling up (if I can keep the pace in killing of course) but is there some downsides in b when compared to d?

2. To level her smoothly I will need some gear. What should I consider being the minimum gear for smooth killing speed with at least /players 8 mode on? I suppose that 1.09 Titan's Revenge and 1.09 Thundergod's Vigor would be some good pieces of equipment that shouldn't be too hard to obtain by either rushing a sorceress for 1.09 Hell Meph running or by obtaining something in 1.07 and then trading it for those items.

3. Generally how easy/hard it is to trade 1.07 goods to 1.07-1.09 stuff? At least I could imagine that not too many players have things available for trading if I don't accept items from 1.10-1.13.

4. In general should I rush a 1.09 hell meph runner sorc to gear up my amazon? Is 20 Cold Mastery, 20 Blizzard, ~5+ Static Field, 10+ Teleport a viable build for this task?

5. Is Lightning Fury amazon good for collecting hellforge drops in 1.10s or should I either make third sorceress for that task or bring that 1.09 mephrunner to 1.10s?

6. Are perfect gems in 1.07 good for anything else than 6x pgem (one of each) amulet prismatic recipe which seems waste of gems to me? (Way too low chances in getting anything decent when I can bring those gems to 1.13 and reroll Grand Charms.)

7. Are 1.07 and 1.09 different in terms of rushing characters to hell hellforge? Some guides just said that they're both good for it but I'm interested if there is some differences.

8. Is there some other patches with "broken" features that I should take a look in addition to these?

1.07 bugged mpk rings, bugged crafting, racking, easy rushing

1.09 fast levelling

1.10s beta runewords|||Welcome! {kicks shins}

Now that thats out of the way,

1. 1.09b does give up to /p64, so if you can keep your killspeed up, its great...

2. but most of the active 1.09 players are in 1.09d, so trading for good items is much easier in that patch, I believe.

3. there are some traders in older patches...I'm in 1.07, and RobbyD is in 1.09d...but most trades for stuff from older patches is for newer patch items. I've traded 1.07 gear for 1.09 gear myself, but I don't know how hard it might be to locate a trader for a specific item.

4. RobbyD's 1.09 guide talks about slivering Meph with high (lvl17+) Static Field...maybe that would be a good choice?

5. No experience with a furyzon for 1.10s HF collection...dunno

6. The prismatic ammy formula is the only real use for pgems in 1.07 outside of their intrinsic bonuses...but I've seen some GODLY amulets that resulted from that recipe!

7. I've never HF rushed in 1.09, but its certainly easier in 1.07 than in 1.10+

8. I believe that 1.08 crafting might also hold some nice possibilities...1.07 is better for those recipes that are enabled, but there are many more enabled in 1.08...

For 1.09b: Working CtC and ability to go over P8 (but the returns past 8 are, from what I've seen others post, not really effecient).

For 1.09d: Broken CtC is GOOD for a Sorc with an Occy, and there are some people trading gear. Might be for b too, but I know Steven Q Urkel and I both deal in 1.09d.

Yes, Titan's are good and TGod's is my pick for the "MUST HAVE" 1.09 gear, since, with decent LR, it removes the danger of MSLE. The irony is, as legendary as LF is in 1.09 for cows, I found that 1.13 Javazons are much more poweful than 1.09 on the Javalin side. In 1.09, you will want a bow switch. Here's what I stongly suggest for gear - Buriza on a bow switch, and pumped GA. Socket it with a Nef.

I'm currently MFing in 1.09 for a TGod's - it's not that terribly common - 1.09 drop rates are much lower than 1.10+, and of course the D2 gods are mocking me - 2x Baranar's Stars from Mephy and a BKSC from Pindle with only an ETH TGod's to drop.

You could rush a Sorc - Static bug is in full effect in 1.09d, I can confirm, but you have to have your merc well geared, as they are much more fragile in 1.09 than 1.10+. I would actually suggest a Barb - able to tank Mephy and leech (you can leech from Hell Act Bosses in 1.09) and switch to dual Ali Babas for the kill, and with the Nat Res, you can run Mephy with just a 4 pTopaz armor. Stealskull and War Travs are PERFECT for a Mephy running Barb. Still, a Rhyme Heater, Occy, and Shako make a Sorc mighty good too.

I've got plans to try 1.07 and a bevy of 1.09d gear - Steven Q Urkel has 1.09d stuff as well - others I've read play 1.09b, but I don't know how much they trade or how much stuff they have.

4. In general should I rush a 1.09 hell meph runner sorc to gear up my amazon? Is 20 Cold Mastery, 20 Blizzard, ~5+ Static Field, 10+ Teleport a viable build for this task?

See my response to #2 - The Static Bug is in full effect for 1.09d Mephy running, but it's easier to MF up a Barb that can tank Mephy, in my experience. A sorc kind of needs a Skin, where a Barb can put Skullder's or even a 4 pTopaz armor to great use - and the 3-chip recipe is custom made for getting awesome weapons for a Barb. Still, if you're going to do a Sorc, that's a good setup.

5. Is Lightning Fury amazon good for collecting hellforge drops in 1.10s or should I either make third sorceress for that task or bring that 1.09 mephrunner to 1.10s?

If you're going to use a Zon, you need to pump Charged Strike (which is weak in 1.09 due to lack of synergies and no increased # of bolts), and for your bow switch (for the rampant LIs in RoF) pump Strafe instead of GA. So, in short, a Zon is not a good conversion character. I did a MeteOrb sorc for that purpose, and she does well in 1.10a (running both Andy and Mephy). What you REALLY need for 1.10s is a Reaper's Toll for the merc, and you can't get that in 1.09.

Emerald poison damage is bugged in 1.07 to add dmg/sec AND stacks duration. That effect remains in 1.09 for ranged weapons. 1.09 SCs of Inertia grant 5% FRW, so you might think about rolling SCs in 1.09. Crafting in 1.07 is full of beneficial bugs, but I defer to WoRG on that - I'm not the expert.

Bosses are nerfed in 1.09 compared to 1.07, but neither have the blocking quests of 1.10+. 1.07 Static is uncapped, 1.09 Static is bugged to be uncapped for Act Bosses. I think it's much easier to make a rushing tank in 1.09 than 1.07 due to overall better available gear.

8. Is there some other patches with "broken" features that I should take a look in addition to these?

1.07 bugged mpk rings, bugged crafting, racking, easy rushing

1.09 fast levelling

1.10s beta runewords

1.09 SCs of Inertia

1.09 easy rushing (probably easier than 1.07 due to nerfed bosses)

1.09 Countess drops up to Vex (but takes some doing)

1.07/1.09 Raven Claw unique Long Bow

1.10a BKWB and Nosferatu's Coil|||It's hard to beat teleport for a forge reward collecting character, so I would vote for a third sorc on that front.

I don't know as much about 1.09 cows except from somewhat faded memory when that was the current patch. But in 1.07 cows the leveling is actually reasonable if you have other characters in the game, and LF and MS both benefit from +damage charms which can be very nice in 1.07.|||Thanks for all the answers.

I got myself through that annoying 1.09 mf part and actually obtained some decent items to equip my Amazon for grinding xp. Some tweaks could be done but after some cowruns I'm quite happy with her. I actually did one before my current one and was a bit unhappy with her skill distribution so I redid her before I spent too much time with that faulty setup. My second iteration on this xp grinder amazon is posted after few new questions.

1. Chipped Gems have their own use in 1.09b but are Flawed-Flawless only for cubing Perfect ones?

2. If I find a nice Valkyrie's Circlet of xxx in 1.07 can I get 2 sockets in it if I bring it forward to 1.09b? In 1.07 Circlet family only gets one socket if I remember it right so moving it forward would be required but I don't know if they keep that 1 socket only limitation. I already tried it on two circlets and they both got only 1 socket. Might be that I was just unlucky or that the limitation stays which would be a bit lame.

3. I've noticed that I get around the same experience if I run the cow level with players 8, players 12 or players 16. Was I unlucky to get high and low end amounts of xp per run during the test runs or is experience gaining buggy and it does not increase after players 8?

4. If I am trigger happy with my Lightning Fury and actually run out of Javelins in my Titan's Revenge do I lose that stack or do I just have to fix it or wait for it to replenish? (1.09b)

And here is my current Amazon for those who are interested.

Lvl 90

Stats:

(naked / titan's + moser / buriza)

Strength: 110 / 150 / 130

Dexterity: 110 / 150 / 165

Vitality: 305 / 325 / 325

Energy: 15 / 15 / 15

Skills (with titan's + moser's):

Lightning Fury preregs 3

Lightning Fury 20/32

All passives except Valkyrie 1

Decoy 20/25

Pierce 20/25

Guided Arrow preregs 4

Guided Arrow 20/25

Unused 8

Decoy didn't apparently get any life bonus for skill points invested so those 20 points were pretty much wasted. I haven't gotten Valkyrie yet because on the first try she was pretty much useless. On high levels she costs a lot of mana, she is slow, she wanders around randomly so usually she is not where I want her to be and she still dies sooner or later even at higher /p settings. (For same reasons I don't have mercenary at all.) I want to control the hordes of cows instead of some stupid AI driven character that most likely just screws up anyway.

I suppose I could pump all the remaining points into Critical Strike to boost Guided Arrow a bit but I don't want to waste more points since I already burned a lot of them on Decoy. Good thing there is respecs in 1.13 when I am happy with her level...

Why this? I wanted to reach 89% IAS for fastest thrown javelin breakpoint. While this increases my dps it also makes gameplay more fluent which is more important than what my previous helm candidate (Tarnhelm) would have offered with +1 All Skills. At the moment I think that ideally I would have 2 amazon or 3 javelin skills circlet with 2 sockets and possibly a decent suffix filled with Jewels of Fervor. Until I get those I'll settle with my Mavina's which I racked in 1.07 before I started gearing up my amazon so I had that already waiting for me. Why did I rack it instead of spending that time racking something more worth it? I just have always wanted to own this item. (Kira's Guardian is another item that has something special in it.)

Not too bad. 30% FRW with some MF. Of course I could get resistances or more MF or maybe even 40 FRW from the boots but I don't care. It's just fitting to wear at least one item from the Cow set when I'm only doing cowruns. Besides nobody uses these so why not. :P

This ring keeps me going. Until I got it I had to keep a healthy supply of mana potions that npcs didn't sell. No need for that anymore! I suppose a 37mpk/10fcr would be pretty flashy (and unnecessary) replacement. FCR would do good though as casting Decoys or Slow Missiles is very slow without any FCR.

Why change Lidless to this? I lost +1 All Skills and that nice FCR which made casting stuff a bit smoother but I gain two gemsockets in an otherwise nice shield. That means 30 IAS which is enough to reach 89% with 30 from helm, 15 from body armor and 20 from gloves. This is the only item that gives me resistances. Fortunately they're not really needed in the cow level.
