Other Travincal build options

I know that Trav Barbs are really good for running this area (hence the name). I was wondering if there is any other builds that would be a close second anyone would recommend. Or if someone could give a poor-mans option for building the barb that would be helpful. I have one matted blizzard sorc that is starting to build some wealth since my restart but still have a long ways to go.

Thanks|||Barbs are preferred for thier Horking ability. I understand a Black Hades is a decent poorman's Forti. Go with Oaths if you can't make Griefs. You can farm the Mals for Oath from Countess (though a bad option for a Blizzy). Pop a Smoke on the merc for cheap resists.|||Quote:

It doesn't get much better than that. Seriously, on paper its possible, but a blizz sorc can do trav runs in under 30 seconds, minimizing the advantages of a barbs horking ability.|||i must say second best build for runnig travincal is blizz sorc, so maybe you can just run with her

btw, if you are not after gold. a decent gear will work for trav barb you dont have to have super gear.|||In my mind there are 4 main builds for Trav Running:

(1) Trav Barb: see Fabian's guide

the most efficient way, unless you obsess about runes being lost in the clutter as I do

(2) Trav Pally: see my Pat thread

I had quite some success with this, as I know did 7oD

(3) Blizz sorc

I know frozzzzen was running Trav with her. 'Infinity' on the moron breaks the one Council member who is CI, most of the time. Cold Mastery takes him down to like -90 CR. With the right gear (Nightwing's, Ormus, Fathom, skillers), you can easily get to over 10k damage, or much more really. The trick here is to reroll the map so that all Council memebers spawn in such a way that you can cover them with one Blizzard.

(4) Poison Nova Necro

Nightfish was doing that. The less offensive style is rolling a map where they are all inside and shooting Nova's through the windows. If I was playing HC, I'd be doing that.

--Greebo|||I have tried multiple things to run Council, but barb is definitively best choice. Blizzard sorceress is my second choice (well she's first choice, but she isn't as effective as barb tbh). Problem with blizzy is that you need to have much better gear then with barb. Dual Oath/Black hades setup > 3 part Tal's/whatever in my book. Sorc is also pretty CtA dependent and barb has built in BO in skills.

Only advantage blizzard sorceress has is: fun to play. More then barb at least, but again that's only my personal preference. You really need to have great gear to make it work, and you have to kill very fast cause merc does 95% tanking so he can burn quite fast. I'd say 12-15k is blizzard dmg you should aim for.

Hammerdin can do it, but it largely depends on map and you really need Enigma to be effective. Just honorable mention for him. Teleporting poison nec is kinda viable, but runs seem very unstable and risky I just can't get proper ress/dmg/MF etc to make him viable.

For budget, stick with barb, for efficiency, stick with barb, and by the time your barb is boring to you and pain to play, send blizzard sorceress into Travincal By that time you will have proper gear for her hopefully.|||Running Trav with a budget barb is doable, but not particularly efficient IMO. Kstarm: are you running the Council to get HRs? I think you will reap better results in less time at LK with your blizzsorc. It's damned boring, though.|||Greebo, it surprises me greatly that what you got from the discussion in your Pat thread was that your Paladin "arguably is more efficient" than a WW Barb. I would hate for people to be tricked by this, so let me state very clearly that any Paladin build has absolutely no shot at getting close to a Travbarb in terms of efficiency. Of course, you should do what's fun for you*|||Nice interesting idea about the blizz-sorc. I manage to do five sucessfull runs on p2 and p3-settings. It went flawless. I think i will continue do some more runs. My first idea was to build a fana-zealer to manage the uniqe-pack down there. Maybe on a higher p-settings. Anyway, thank you all for the nice idea!

EDIT: I don't want to highjack or make a new thread. What's the best choice with a trav-paladin? Is it fana-smite or fana-zeal? Maybe something else?|||@Fabian:

Let me state this clearly for once: Barbs are best at Trav running.

Did I say otherwise?

----------

My use of the word "arguably" refers to my pet peeve, not to something else:

I don't like running Trav with a Barb, because after horking there's so much stuff on the ground, that it's impossible to see if there's runes out there. I've tried the teleport around method, the run around method, and the watch as it falls for orange flashes method. I don't like either one of them.

After carefully checking the ground many times by picking up gold and stuff and finding runes underneath, I'm also certain neither of those methods work with any degree of certainty. Now, call it a pet peeve, but it pisses me off that there might be a Ber underneath all this crap. So I obsess and check. This makes my runs slower and less efficient. If someone is fine with missing runes in the clutter on the floor, good for them, and good for their efficiency. I'm not.

So that's why I don't like horking there. I spend too much time on it to be worth the effort. And as far as just killing goes, Blizzy, Pally and Barb are very close in efficiency. I'm not saying Barb won't be best at just that, but it's a somewhat of a close call.

But the bottom line is: I run Trav with Pally cause I like it. It's a valid option. 31-32 sec runs at /p3 are nothing to sneeze at in my opinion. See the top of my post for comparison of efficiency.

@Klonki:

/p2 yields the same results as /p1, so don't do that. Run /p1 /p3 /p5 or /p7. I run Trav with Fana Zealer, see my previous post for a Pat thread if you're curious.
