Pally Question: How much is 500 Def?

[:1]Hey, How much is 500 Def for a paladin?

I'm going to make my first enigma and I was deciding between a Breast Plate and an Archon Plate.

It's 73 points of strength in difference (which will be put into vit.)

So what's more important the roughly 500 def, or the -73+ points in vit?|||Defense is usually never worth the life sacrifice. Besides you can build it in something else, like a dusk shroud if you still want a higher base defense armor and save some points.

If you plan on using it on any other char, I'd say make it in the one with lowest possible strength requirement so a breast plate would be a great choice since its also a light type armor.|||The 73 points of vit would be more noticeable, but extra defense isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'd choose your base depending on what would allow the most flexibility on your planned builds. Squeeze out all the def you can, based on the average str you'd have without needlessly pumping that stat.|||Go for the BP. Defense is alright, but never at the expense of life.|||Without a question, Breast Plate, or Mage Plate, whichever one you think looks cooler on your favorite class.

In very specific circumstances, having high defense can be useful. A lot of the time (running), it's completely useless. It's something you take when it comes free, and ignore otherwise. Having more life is way way more useful. The argument by Syxalis is deeply flawed (sorry). On a lot of characters you can get away with investing no hard points in Str at all, when using 'Enigma'.

--Greebo|||i thought syxalis had it about right actually. get the most def you can for approximately the lowest strength you plan on having before gear. it's easy to get a dusk shroud on without more than a few strength points invested. i usually go with dusk shrouds myself.

besides breast plates look like crap on most classes.

edit: thought of one more thing, a lot of builds that would use an enigma would also use monarch spirit and/or stormshield anyway and you cant get those on without some strength investment even with enigma.|||If you are going to put it on a paladin, surely you are going to want to use a HoZ, strength requirement of 89. This opens up Dusk Shroud and even Wyrmhide with requirements of 77 & 84 respectively. Neither of these are a major burden on any other character that you may wish to use it on.|||Quote:

But don't forget that enigma has a massive bonus to strength. Do you can get away with only 40-50 base str if you want to wear those.

I think syx's argument was perfect actually. Get the best bang for your Buck, without additional needless strength investment.

I put mine in a MP, in hindsight I would probably have gone BP, as it is the most flexible.|||Personally i would put mine in a MP, Mainly because breastplate is really ugly !

That's probably where we differ. I never put less than the minimum requirement in hard point for any equipment. I was burnt too often when I first started playing.
